Award winning furniture for Queensland’s best new design ‘Indesign 2007’
Size: H400mm diameter 290mm
Material: bendable plywood, art print on canvass, clear Estapol lacquer
Bend-able Plywood, rolled double into one overlapping piece which interlocks on itself, is the basis of this durable design. Looking at the locking mechanism invites us to contemplate the design and to realise the simplicity of its function. Humorous faces and gestures add to the appeal of this light, manoeuvrable and functional stool.
The functionality and light-heartedness of the seats design make it suitable for use in the soft furnishing market. This stool can be customized to meet individual preferences. For example, buyers could select personal or family photos, such as those of relatives, to be used for the seat.
Size: W 530 D 230 H 400
Material: plywood, and a skate board
A ‘worthy’ base for your skate board. Play your ‘tricks’ with the supplied finger board on the half pipe.
A standard sized skate board is easily strapped onto the base and becomes the stool itself.
Providing a little hatch in the base of the seat accommodates all the safety gear you should wear, or some spare parts for your board.
The finish/colours on the ’stool’ are only bound by your imagination.
Size: seats seven people comfortable
Material: Structure in Pine wood 45X45 mm, webbing, foam cushions, finish: micro fibre fabric
A custom built lounge can easily transform almost any shaped area into a cosy corner. The foot stool has a centre piece that can be turned over, converting the piece into a coffee table. There is even a hidden drawer!
Placing the footstool against the Lounge creates a cosy ‘Island’ to relax.
Material: MDF and Plywood, 2pac, leather upholstery
Size: W 550 D 700 H 950mm
Exploring the possibility to create a comfortable chair which could be used in two ways.
YIN DOWN becomes the bar/working stool
YANG DOWN becomes the TV/reading/relaxing chair
Size: W500 D700 H 950mm
Material: bendable plywood, 0.5mm mirror polished aluminium
The concept for this stool was based on a self set challenge of using two paper strips (24cm x 2cm) to design a scale model of a chair, then to choose a building material which would create an exciting feature.
The core of the stool is a triple layer of bendable plywood, measuring 2400mm x 200mm, overlayed with a mirror-finish, polished aluminium sheeting (0.5mm).
Hand bent, and following the ergonomic shape of the human body, the plywood strips become ‘one’ with the chair and invite the onlooker to explore its shape and form. At the same time, the mirror-finish draws attention to the surroundings, expressing them through the chair’s undulating shape and reflected colours of the immediate environment.

‘one off piece’
I was inspired to build this piece of furniture by a Strangler Fig Tree that I once saw enveloping a huge Pine tree on Fraser Island. The visual beauty which suggests a ‘coexistence’ between these two different types of trees distracts us from the obvious outcome - the death of the Pine Tree. Similarly, the black MDF board ‘strangles’ the Rosewood cabinet, and, as you look more closely other shapes are suggested.
Material: 18mm MDF 2pac, on castors
Size: W 900 D 430 H 900mm

I wanted to capture the sand dunes in this piece of furniture. Every piece is hand built and unique, being lacquered directly onto raw MDF. ‘Dune’ sends out a feeling of needing to be touched and explored with your hands. The myth says…………….
Long ago, in ancient Egypt, there dwelt a beautiful princess. One day, in the search for water, she sent her bravest warriors to seek the truth behind the legend of a hidden oasis called Emerald Shell.
The warriors trekked across desolate sands, and after nine passing moons, they finally came upon the hidden oasis. The warriors returned with the news of their good fortune and the princess, fearful of her enemies, resolved that the location of Emerald Shell would forever remain secret.
The princess ordered no map be drawn and instead requested that a fine chest of drawers be constructed. The chest of drawers would be adorned with three tracks, only one of which would be the true path to Emerald Shell. Once the piece was finished, the princess destroyed the original map and, turning to her loyal warriors, said:
“This piece shall never leave me, and where ever I travel it will always be kept in my bedroom”.
Material: cherry veneer board/aluminium / 2pac/ MDF 2pac legs

Drawer fronts and handles available in a variety of finishes.
Covered with a thick cowhide leather, this chest is decorated with chrome rivets. Many leather finishes and colours available.
Size: W 1020 D 470 H 900mm
Material: Salvaged board from old kitchens, laundries and furniture etc, drawer fronts randomly selected out of free off cuts from cabinet factories around Brisbane, 6mm Acrylic glass, pin board inlay finished with Estapol floor lacquer.
It’s just a chest of drawers with no design?!
The idea is to make the new owner responsible for finishing this design with items which hold a sentimental value to the owner.
The chest is a low level design chest of drawers where the top, sides and the back are finished in acrylic glass creating a narrow display case that surrounds the piece. The drawer fronts are all finished in individual designs and colours, except for four randomly selected drawers which will initially be finished in white (these white drawers are to be personalised by the owner).
‘Start your collection of mementoes in the Memory box’. Imagine a personalised piece of furniture to store all the bits and pieces you’ve collected in your life which remind you of a special moment. They may include; an old photograph from school, the concert tickets from your favourite band, the unexpected birthday card from a special friend, the champagne cork from your anniversary, a piece of fabric from your long gone favourite denim jeans…and many things still to come.
The white drawer fronts are meant to be changed in time by the owner. The replacement draw fronts may be salvaged from old furniture which you inevitably, had to let go, or a renovation for example. Salvaged handles and knobs may also be incorporated in your memory box, to make it truly unique.
This is a piece which is set to become the ‘shrine’ of your memories, starting a collection of the ‘special moments in life’……….when do you start?

The sides of the stool appear to be running through the seat of the chair, but after first consideration you could also think the top and the bottom part ‘brace’ the seat together. The plywood seat extrudes 8mm either side and cuts completely through the sides of the chair.
Different versions could be build in a variety of finishes, designs or colours, all underlining the beautiful effect of the ergonomic shaped line, created from the overhanging plywood edge of the seat. Looking side on, a person in the chair really completes the picture. He becomes an extension of the chair, due to the visible edge of the seat.
